NEW YORK, March 1, 2026, 6:30 p.m. — In a shocking twist, Donald Trump’s past race-baiting tweets about Barack Obama are now being used to highlight the hypocrisy of his current military actions against Iran. Critics argue that Trump’s own words reveal a pattern of fear-mongering and racialized politics that he is now trying to hide behind a war.
Back in September 2013, Trump tweeted, “Remember what I previously said—Obama will someday attack Iran in order to show how tough he is.” Just two months later, he added, “Obama will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly — not skilled.”
And in 2011, Trump claimed, “Our president will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate.” Those remarks, critics say, are dripping with racial undertones and a desire to paint Obama as weak and reckless.
Now, with Trump having launched a surprise attack killing the supreme leader, social media is flooding with comparisons. Critics say Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric about Obama, the first Black president, was built on racial stereotypes that fueled division and fear.
