NEW YORK, March 6, 2026, 8 p.m. — Former President Barack Obama today took the stage not just to honor a civil rights icon Jesse Jackson and delivering a powerful message about the state of the nation.
In a speech filled with veiled critiques, Obama voiced deep concern about current leadership, highlighting the daily assaults on democracy, the rise of “greed” and “bigotry”, and the erosion of truth. He said:
“Each day we’re told by those in high office to fear each other, and to turn on each other. And that some Americans count more than others, and that some don’t even count at all! Everywhere we see greed and bigotry being celebrated, and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength! We see science and expertise denigrated, while ignorance and dishonesty, and cruelty, and corruption ,are reaping untold rewards! every single day we see that and it’s hard to hope In those moments.”
He urged Americans to resist cynicism and despair, pointing to Jesse Jackson’s example of unwavering hope and activism.
“His voice calls on each of us to be heralds of change,” Obama said, emphasizing that it is our responsibility to step up whether in our communities, workplaces, or schools to make a difference.
As the nation continues to grapple with division and dishonesty, Obama’s words serve as a rallying cry. Stay hopeful, stay engaged, and remember that true change begins with us.
