NEW YORK, March 28, 2026, 3 p.m.— A social media scandal has rocked New York City, with the city's first lady, Rama Duwaji, at the center of a growing controversy over her use of the N-word.

According to sources, Duwaji, a 28-year-old rising figure in local politics, used the racial slur in a series of now-deleted tweets posted during high school.

The tweets, obtained by The New York Post, appear to show Duwaji joking about a friend calling her smart in a conversation strand.

The tweet from when she was 15 reads: "Helllll yeah, nigga. Super duper genius* excuse you."

Her husband, the mayor, seemed to distance himself from the controversy, stating that "she has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall."
