NEW YORK, Jan. 11, 2025, 12 p.m. — The Department of Homeland Security’s official X account posted a racist meme last week featuring the phrase "We'll have our home again."
This slogan is associated with white nationalist and white separatist groups like the Proud Boys and UK-based Patriotic Alternative. The post has sparked renewed outrage and accusations of promoting racist ideologies.
This latest post follows a troubling pattern of DHS content that increasingly echoes white nationalist themes. Just a month earlier, the account shared a provocative question, "Which way, American man?" This is a reference to Which Way, Western Man, a 1978 book by neo-Nazi author William Gayley Simpson, which advocates racist and violent ideologies.
In October, DHS posted a meme with the phrase "America for Americans," a slogan long associated with the Ku Klux Klan.
As recently as July, the agency shared a painting of white homesteaders during the Westward expansion, with a Black woman in the background. The caption for that post was "Remember your heritage."
Critics are raising alarms over what they see as a disturbing normalization of white nationalist language and symbolism from a federal agency tasked with national security. The controversy continues to unfold as officials remain silent. Many are left wondering if DHS is fueling division or if these posts are just unfortunate coincidences.
