NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2026, 12 p.m. — Colorado coach Deion Sanders says he gets roughly five death threats daily, citing his status as a Black man making waves in college football. His bodyguard, Michael Rhodes, told Colorado players to be cautious about who they let into team facilities, warning: “If the doors are open, they will come through.”

Sanders has been vocal about the dangers he faces, especially in light of ongoing threats. Last year, reports surfaced that Sanders’ home was burglarized in a $200K theft, and he has publicly spoken about the violence targeting him.

Sanders also shared that he’s been battling health issues, including an aggressive bladder cancer diagnosis and complications like blood clots that led to toe amputations. Despite these challenges, he continues to coach with resilience, emphasizing his commitment to his team and community.
