NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2026, 5 p.m. In a shocking incident at the Sundance Film Festival, Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost was violently assaulted during a private party in Utah. Frost, the first Afro-Cuban and Gen Z member of Congress, revealed that the attacker shouted racist remarks before punching him in the face.

“Last night, I was assaulted by a man at Sundance who told me Trump was going to deport me before he punched me,” Frost posted on X (formerly Twitter). The 29-year-old lawmaker said the suspect, who was heavily intoxicated, ran off screaming racial slurs. Frost assured supporters he is okay and thanked security and local police for their swift response.

According to authorities, the suspect, identified as Christian Young, unlawfully entered the private event after being turned away. He was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including aggravated burglary and assault.

The incident reportedly occurred just after midnight at the High West Saloon, where Young allegedly broke into a private party and attacked Frost and a female attendee. Witnesses said Young shockingly boasted about being “proud to be white” moments before the assault.

This disturbing attack highlights ongoing tensions ahead of an already tense political climate. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries condemned the assault, calling for the perpetrator to be prosecuted and emphasizing that hate and political violence have no place in America.

Frost, a rising star in the Democratic Party, tweeted: “We are in scary times. Please stay safe and do not let these people silence you. Onwards.”
