BRUSSELS, Nov. 13, 2013, 1 p.m. - While police and the mainstream press have continued to protect the identity of the Michigan man responsible for the death of a 19-year-old woman, the independent press is openly reporting the homeowner's name.

The Voice of Detriot was first on Saturday to report Theodore Paul Wafer or Ted Wafer, of 16812 West Outer Drive in Dearborn Heights, ‎as being responsible for the shooting of Renisha McBride, 19. The Voice of Detroit's dispatch was followed by reports by Atlanta Black Star, DigitalJournal.com and SandraRose.com. All the of the websites reported the shooter's name to Theodore Paul Wafer or Ted Wafer.

A 54-year-old homeowner has said that he accidentally fired his 12-gauge shotgun killing McBride on Nov. 2, police said. The medical examiner has ruled the death a homicide.

What's more, a 911 dispatcher detailed the homeowner's confession in a recoding released late yesterday.

Names are typically withheld by authorities and the press in crimes of rape and when juveniles are involved.

There are reports that McBride had been drinking that night before she had a car wreck. It is unclear why she was so far away from her vehicle.
