Black unemployment remains near 14 percent

ATLANTA, Feb. 1, 2013, 9:30 a.m. - The black unemployment rate today continued to remain high after leaping forward a full percent, according to a recent report by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The January rate was at 13.8 percent, which is close to a14 percent high in December, according to the department. The December rate was up from 13.2 percent in November.

The November rate of 13.2 percent, was the lowest level since the summer, according to the department.

The black unemployment rate is about double the white rate of 7 percent.

The overall rate was also up from to 7.8 percent to 7.9 percent last month.
