Talk show host calls for month-long boycott of Virginia

April 8, 2010, 2 p.m. - Black Talkers "Talented 10" member and syndicated personality of the year Joe Madison is calling for a month-long boycott of Virginia's "Confederate History Month."

"It makes no since that as a means to increase tourism that the governor wants do this," Madison told Redding News Review. "I think that we should respond by boycotting and not spend our money in a state that minimizes the role of African Americans and the role of slavery.

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s last week proclaimed Confederate History Month amid much criticism.
NAACP head Benjamin Jealous and the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus have both assailed the month, which has not been recognized in the state for almost a decade.

Madison said he plans to announce the boycott on his Friday morning show.
