James Watson, Nas and Reid may agree: Blacks are inferior

Oct. 25, 2007, 1 a.m. - James Watson shared a Nobel Prize in 1962 for DNA research. Supposedly, “One of the most prominent scientists in the world caused public outrage with his claim that members of the black race are less intelligent than whites.”
It appears that actions by the rapper Nas may amount to similar feeling in his desire to title his next CD the N-Word. L.A. Reid has indicated support for Nas’s intent. At its worse, the N-Word is the ultimate word of disrespect against Blacks.

No other race in the world accepts disrespect. They know that throughout time and around the world, in every society and in every group, two things have always been certain. Those that demand respect are always on top and those that accept disrespect are always on the bottom.

I was disappointed when I heard that the talented rap artist Nas intends to release a CD entitled "N-Word". This appears to be one of us, conditioning others of us to accept disrespect and therefore, take a place below other races.

In 1994, I succeeded in having the N-word deleted from a major dictionary. I thank God for allowing me to be able to make a difference and help convince the world that disrespect of Black people will not be tolerated.

Unfortunately, some rappers will grow older and be remembered only for the disease of accepting disrespect that they left for their children and grandchildren to inherit. They will be the beacons that led many lost souls to tragedy and ruin.

The lyrics on Nas’s CD probably will be positive and powerful. However, I fear that Nas will only be singing to the choir. His obvious marketing gimmick may be lethal.

Racists have no intent, nor interest in listening to Nas’s lyrics. Millions of racists will use the CD to lay openly on their work desks, school desks, department store display areas, and include in loud discussions with the intention of insulting Black adults and Black children legally. As the fight for civil rights takes one step forward to prove in the courtrooms that verbal discrimination really exists, we voluntarily take two steps backwards.

James Watson appears to have a racist mind. His findings give racist minds confidence in potential, but no guarantee of results. Even though over centuries White people have had better access to education, it still does not mean that their brain capacity is better than ours.

Despite the shadow of gloom that I feel Dr. Watson attempts to place on a race, the bumble bee will continue to fly and the same Black seeds that had to grow in desert soil will continue to bloom in beauty.

Giving racists another reason to discriminate may be Dr. Watson’s most remembered accomplishment. The discouraging words of Dr. Watson have now been condemned worldwide.

It is encouraging to see good people of all races step up and express that the James Watsons of the world will not be allowed to disrespect Black people. Now, if only we could get Black people to stop disrespecting Black people.
