UPDATE: EXCLUSIVE: MORGAN STATE RADIO HOST 'REMOVED' FOR ANTI-GAY REMARKS
WASHINGTON, Oct. 24, 2005, 1:00 p.m. - The head of a gay rights group is asking his members to complain to Morgan State University's radio station about a host he says spread "blatant homophobia."
"I am asking people to register their complaints," said Dan Furmansky, executive director for Equality Maryland. "The station deserves to know how the listeners feel."

Furmansky said Duane Johnson, a radio host on state run WEAA-FM, last Sunday asked his listening audience to protest "Coming Out" week events put on by a "Gay-Straight Alliance" at Pikesville High School by picketing the school. He said the next day about 20 people - including Johnson - picketed the school yelling anti-gay slogans and singing hymns.
"Morgan State University Radio needs to know that the citizens of Maryland will not tolerate blatant homophobia on public radio," an e-mailed statement to the groups members obtained by Redding News Review reads. "Remind them that WEAA-FM is a public radio station serving the ENTIRE community and not just a bastion of anti gay religious pundits."
WEAA's management has referred all media calls to Clinton Coleman, public relations director for Morgan State University. Coleman has not return a call to comment.
Equality Maryland is Maryland’s largest civil rights organization, focused on making life better for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender citizens of Maryland, according to its website.
WEAA is a "Redding News Review- The Show" affiliate.
